October Is Coming, Bestie. It’s Time to Read Something a Little Cursed

Put down the wholesome summer romance. We have witches, secrets and extremely questionable supernatural decisions to make.

Bestie, we’ve made it.

September is packing her bags. October is standing outside holding a candle and looking suspicious. And suddenly the books that sounded slightly too dark in July? Delicious.

I don’t want sunshine anymore. I want old secrets. I want curses. I want witches who know considerably more than they’re telling me. I want romance with danger lurking somewhere behind it.

Basically, if somebody whispers, “Whatever you do, don’t go into those woods,” I’m buying the book.

Welcome to October reading.

October Reading Is About Atmosphere

Here’s my October rule:

I don’t necessarily need horror. I need something to feel slightly wrong. Maybe there’s an old house nobody enters. Maybe the heroine inherited something she definitely shouldn’t have. Maybe the attractive stranger appears to know her despite them supposedly never having met. Maybe somebody mentions an ancient curse and everyone else immediately changes the subject.

Excuse me?

I’m seated.

That’s why witchy fiction, paranormal romance, gothic stories and darker fantasy feel so ridiculously good this time of year.

We don’t necessarily want to be terrified.

We want to be intrigued.

Give Me a Woman With a Problem Nobody Believes

This might be one of my favourite supernatural-fiction setups.

A woman knows something is wrong. Everyone else has explanations. She’s imagining it. She’s grieving. She’s stressed. It’s coincidence.

Except… It isn’t.

There is something deeply satisfying about following a heroine who has to trust herself when the world around her keeps suggesting she shouldn’t.

Especially when the explanation involves…. nope, not telling ya! Read the book like everyone else! Because sometimes the creepy feeling is anxiety. And sometimes, at least in fiction, your family really did leave you a supernatural nightmare.

October is generous like that.

And Please Add Romance to the Disaster

Apparently danger alone isn’t sufficient entertainment. I would also like sexual tension. There’s something about paranormal romance that works beautifully in October because attraction becomes tangled with uncertainty.

Can she trust him?

What is he hiding?

Is he protecting her?

Is he part of the problem?

Should she kiss him? Absolutely not.

Will she?

Bestie, we bought a romance novel.

Let’s not pretend we’re surprised.

This Is Your Sign to Read the Book That Feels Slightly Dangerous

October is the perfect month to stop choosing books because they’re sensible additions to your TBR.

Pick the weird one. The witchy one. The one with the curse. The book where the blurb makes you think, well, this relationship seems inadvisable.

Read after dark. Light the candle. Make something warm. Turn your phone over. Give yourself an evening where somebody else’s supernatural problems are significantly more important than your inbox.

That’s the kind of October self-care I can support.

And If You’d Like Something Cursed…

Well.

Conveniently. I wrote Widow’s Curse. If your October reading mood has officially moved toward witchcraft, darkness, supernatural secrets and the kind of story that belongs beside a candle on a cold evening, this is exactly when I’d tell you to pick it up.

Not because October legally requires witches.

Although frankly, it should.

But because some books simply hit differently when the nights get longer and you’re actively looking for something that feels a little dangerous.

You can find Widow’s Curse at SoniaMRompoti.com.

Consider this your invitation.

Any consequences involving curses are between you and the book.

What Sonia Rompoti book should I read for October?

Start with Widow’s Curse if you want something darker and cursed for spooky season. You can find it and my other witchy and romance books at SoniaMRompoti.com.

October is almost here.

Choose something cursed. Make questionable fictional decisions. And for heaven’s sake, if an attractive stranger tells you your family has been hiding an ancient supernatural secret…

At least finish your coffee before following him anywhere.
